Climbing 101: Introduction to Outdoor Rock Climbing Course

 Are you ready to begin your outdoor climbing journey? Whether you are brand new to climbing or if you have been enjoying climbing in the gym and ready take a step towards your next adventure, this course is the perfect way to begin to expand your comfort zone and begin climbing outside. Learn everything you need to know to begin climbing outside including: how to tie in, top rope belay, crag etiquette, climbing technique and more! Our guides excel in instructing rock climbing and risk management making sure you learn the most you possibly can while maximizing your time climbing. 

Time Frame: 1 Day

Curriculum: Basic Climbing Equipment, Tying in, Belay Devices, Top Rope Belay, Crag Etiquette and Ethics, Communication in Climbing, Basic Anchors, Climbing, Climbing, and more Climbing!

Prerequisites: No Experience required!

  • Climber Requirements: The ability to hike one mile with a backpack over varied terrain and a desire to learn how to rock climb.

 Climbing in the beautiful Clear Creek Canyon located just west of Golden, Colorado offers world class climbing, incredible views, and easy roadside access to the crag. This course focuses on prepping you for the next steps in your climbing journey.

Should I take Level 1 or Level 2Level 1 is designed to be entry level, if you have never climbed before or have a very limited climbing background start here. Level 2 focuses on advancing beginner skills, if you have climbed in a decent bit in the gym, taken a belay course, or are belay certified at your gym, talk to us about starting here. Overall we will tailor the course to your specific needs. 

How many participants come by themselves? Most participants (95%) who sign up for our group clinics come alone. If you are hesitating to join because you would be coming solo, please know that we expect a majority of our participants to be joining by themselves, seeking community. 

I’ve never climbed before, can I still attend? ABSOLUTELY. This clinic is designed for beginners. The entire ethos of Happening Adventures guiding is to remember what it felt like to try climbing for the first time. It’s intimidating, but we will be with you ever step of the way. 

What is the average age of participants? We generally have a wide range of ages on our trips. The average tends to fall anywhere between the ages of 16 to 45. But we have had quite a few people in their 60’s join as well. It really is up to the attitude and physical ability of the participant.
