This 1 day course is available to Scouting BSA troops looking to get their scouts the Climbing Merit Badge. This outing will cover all of the requirements for the badge, gear needed for climbing and repelling, and instruction from AMGA single pitch instructors. Locations for this course are flexible to best fit in with a troop’s needs, but we have recommended locations that we suggest in order to maximize the quality of the experience. Two scout leaders are required to be present at all times to help manage the scouts. Below is an example outline of the programming:
9-9:30am: Introduction to the day, Discussion of hazards surrounding rock climbing and Leave No Trace Principles.
9:30-10am: Discussion of the rope and other gear used while rock climbing, Learn to tie climbing knots (Figure 8, Water Knot, Double Fishermans, Safety Knot, etc.)
10-10:15am: Gear up for the day
10:15-12:30pm: Begin The climbing day, learn the verbal signals used in rock climbing and rappelling, Learn about the difficulty ratings of rock climbs, learn how to belay, and start rock climbing (complete the 3 rock climbs required)
12:30-1pm: Break for lunch and debrief on the information learned in the morning
1-3pm: Rappelling information refresher, Start Rappelling (complete the 3 Rappels required)

Curriculum: Covers the entire Climbing Merrit Badge for Scouts BSA
Pre-requisites: Must be a Scouting BSA Troop
Cost: $85 per Scout (minimum 10) No cost for leaders, Price includes all needed climbing gear
