Winter Destination Climbing: to maximize the quality of your experience try to plan your visit during the winter. It gets super hot in the south during the summer and outdoor climbing can become a struggle, so do your best to plan to visit between Oct. 1st and April 1st.
Night Climb: Between generally bad climbing conditions in the south and the slopey friction intensive style that the climbs lend themselves to trying to find ideal climbing conditions is key to your trips success. The secrete to finding the best conditions? Night climbing is almost always your best option: Cooler, Dryer, and more fun.
Slopers: If you are training for a visit to the southeast, focus on one thin: slopers. The sandstone features in Alabama require your sloper game to be at its peak during your visit. Expect them, train for them.
Soft Shoes: Going hand in hand with our last tip, bring your soft sticky shoes. You won’t often find yourself having to edge in small holds in the south, so get a pair of shoes that maximizes friction and surface area.
Private Land: If you are from the Western US, the most important thing to understand about southern climbing is that most of it happens on private land. This means you will often have to pay a small fee to climb in an area. Also be sure to be respectful of the areas as its important to keep the land owners happy, or they can shut down climbing access all together.

Guides provide more than just gear and equipment, they also provide in depth knowledge of the area and climbing skills.
